Ngā Tirohanga - Academy Mission
In some ways the name says it all. The Ako Aotearoa Academy of Tertiary Teaching Excellence prime goal is to foster, promote and support the development of excellent tertiary teachers throughout New Zealand. Excellence is at the heart of the Academy.

Te Hītori - Academy History
The Academy was established in 2008 and operates under Ako Aotearoa, New Zealand's National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence. To join The Academy, members must first be awarded a National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award. Teachers previously granted a National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award automatically joined the Academy at this time. Annually up to 12 of these awards are presented to tertiary teachers throughout New Zealand who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to teaching excellence.

Whanaungatanga - Relationships and Collaboration
The Academy views relationships and whanaungatanga with organisations and individuals who support the development of excellent tertiary teachers as critical. The Academy works closely with Ako Aotearoa, the National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence as well as Ako Aotearoa's Regional Hub Network and the Maori and Pacific Caucuses.
